CIRCUMNAVIGATION  OF ARCTIC OCEAN

8-8-16 Danmark's Haven - 11-watermarked.

As far as I am concerned nothing compared with the dazzling scenery experienced in circumnavigating Greenland. There were many times when we had to send out zodiacs to map our route because we were in places not yet on the navigational charts! It was a thrilling leg of the expedition, my favorite.

Some facts about Greenland:

Population - 56,000  (16,500 Nuuk, the capital, 48,000 towns, 8,200 settlements)

80% population INUIT, not Danish

150 kms of roads with the longest being only 25 kms which takes 4hrs!

170,000 seals and 175 whales still killed every year

12th largest country but lowest density of population

The Danish government support: $3,000 @ person in Greenland.

Denmark runs Greenland, the government is like that of Denmark, a socialistic form of government that included stipends for everyone, free education and health care.

This leg was special due to the guests aboard,  Canada’s heroic Astronaut, Chris Hadfield, his son Evan and a group of ten young artists, photographers, writers, videographers, droneagraphers whom he had chosen from a postings on social media, offering them a chance to visit the Arctic.
